Psychological Assessments
Dr. Sebastian evaluates teenagers and adults for a variety of referral questions. These include:
Academic Difficulties such as Specific Learning Disabilities
Attention Problems such as ADHD
Cognitive functioning (deficits or giftedness) and memory impairment
Social or emotional problems, communication and independent living deficits (while I do not provide formal Autism Spectrum diagnoses at this time, an evaluation may be helpful in ruling-in or ruling-out ASD)
About the psychological evaluation process:
The length and number of meetings varies depending on the referral question, though the assessment process typically occurs in 3 steps.
Clinical Interview: You and Dr. Sebastian will meet to discuss concerns, curiosities, and general reasons testing is being sought out. A semi-/structured interview will be completed to gain background history and examples of how problems and patterns are impacting current functioning. If the client is a minor, time will also be allotted to speak with parents/guardians.
Evaluation: In this portion, Dr. Sebastian will utilize standardized, research-based assessments to gain data and direct observations. These vary depending on the referral questions and could look like a computer questionnaire, pen and paper task, or a hands-on tactile activity.
Feedback Session: Dr. Sebastian will meet with you (and parents/guardians) to discuss results, findings, and recommendations. If a formal diagnosis is appropriate, this will also be reviewed as well as any referrals that may be helpful for the next step in treatment. A copy of my assessment report will also be available.
